Saudi Arabia
to the United Kingdom
The Crossway Foundation selected nine winners following a nationwide search for artists, designers, photographers and filmmakers in Saudi Arabia.
Adhwaa, Ahaad, Ajlan, Anggi, Hawra, Hesham, Hussain, Noorah and Sultan travelled to the United Kingdom from 3-18 July 2011 on the cultural journey of a lifetime around the UK.
The team worked with professional artists, designers, social entrepreneurs, museum curators and filmmakers to develop the key skills of leadership, communication, and creativity. The journey included special collaborations with major cultural institutions including the British Museum, Tate Modern and Penguin Books.
The team travelled to two locations – London and Cornwall – to explore the country's creative industries, visit inspiring places and collaborate with local arts and social organisations. Pairing each participant with a relevant and dynamic creative organisation, the team were given individual tasks to complete. The journey was designed as an investment in these young people’s creative potential, helping them to learn new skills and gain in confidence so they return to Saudi Arabia and inspire their peers and communities to value creativity as a 21st Century vocation.
"I feel I have a responsibility to pass my inspiration and what I have learned to other Saudis at home."
