Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom
to Spain
In April 2015 the Crossway Foundation and Art Jameel invited six photographers from Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to Spain to learn contemporary photographic practices in the magnificent settings of Córdoba, Seville, Granada and Madrid.
The six photographers were mentored throughout their time in Andalucía by Javi Orcaray, Director of La Fragua artist residency and CoMbo art space.
They also worked with leading photography collectives and artists, including Juan Valbuena, Director of NOPHOTO photography collective, Madrid; Andrés Cobacho, Director of Blow Up photography school, Córdoba; Ángel Masip; Alberto Rojas Maza, Director of Cobertura Photo, Seville; José Miguel Puerta, Arabist, Art Historian and Professor at the University of Granada.
During their final two days in Madrid, the group worked together to create, edit, design and print a publication. They were asked to work quickly and collectively, deciding the tone, narrative and selection of photographs. An online version of the publication is available by clicking here.
All films from the Journey to Andalucía are available by clicking here and a selection of photographs is available by clicking here.
"Through successful collaboration over several years, Art Jameel and the Crossway Foundation together have played a unique role in enabling creative entrepreneurship in the MENAT (Middle East, North Africa and Turkey) region."
Fady Jameel, President of Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives (ALJCI) International.
